Ruchit Patel is Co-Founder of All Events in City. Headquartered in Ahmadabad, All Events in City is an organization which helps event explorers to find the right details about the events happening in the cities. To help people find the events, the company has spread over 30,000 cities and 9 million event organizers in just 6 years.

Startup Talk with Ruchit Patel,

  1. How did the entrepreneurial bug bit you?

Ans:   I think it started in my childhood. Thanks to my father, I had early access to a computer. Curiosity made me the self-learn lot of tools and programming languages. I developed an educational software at age of 15 and earned INR 60,000 from it. That was first significant income I made.

  1. How did you hit upon the idea of All Events in City?

Ans:  After passing out from college, Amit & I started an IT services company. We used to do offshore IT services projects and also developing our own products. To grow our services we started attending some local networking events in the city. At that time, we realized that there were a lot of small but very useful events were happening in our city but there was no source or platform from where we could know about that events.

We decided to solve this problem on our own, hence, allevents.in was born. We built a platform which aggregates event information from different sources and websites on the web. We made this information very easily accessible on our platform. Soon, we realized the problem is not just ours, everyone is facing a problem of discovering new events and people loved the idea.

  1. What’s most exciting about your traction to date?

Ans:   We started from Ahmedabad and currently, we are having more than 120 Million events on our platform happening in 30,000 cities/towns across the world. We are helping 4 Million users to discover events every month with our Web and Mobile Apps.

  1. Tell us about a time when you faced some sort of overwhelming challenge at work and how you overcame it.

Ans:   There are multiple instances of challenges. In, early days due to an exponential growth of users we often faced downtime. Gradually we learned to scale the application on cloud platforms. We innovated many tools that helped us to reduce server costs.

Apart from technical things, Our primary revenue model was third party advertisement on our site. One day we got to know that ad network has stopped serving ad on our website due to some policy issues. That dropped on us as a bomb. Suddenly our revenue became zero. This incident made us rethink our revenue model. This leads us to innovate our own Advertising & Promotion platform. We added multiple revenue channels and solve the challenge.

  1. Can you tell us about your competitors and what is the advantage you have over them?

Ans:   Most of the competitors are ticketing platform. They list only events which are ticketing they are doing on their platform. While as an event discovery platform we have the largest inventory of events for event explorers.  We have local competitions, but at a global level, we have very few competitors. As a pioneer in event discovery, we have early mover’s advantage over them, we keep innovating and stay ahead.

  1. Can you mention any tools/software that is helping your business to run smoothly?

Ans:   As productivity tools, our team uses Google Apps. We use Asana to manage tasks. WhatsApp has become the primary tool for communication. Apart from them, we use Canva, Sublime, Sketch in routine. We prefer open source tools & technologies for development.

  1. You and your partner Amit Panchal, Where do you want to plan to take the company?

Ans: We have been users focused event discovery platform for 6 years.  Now we are closely working with event organizers to help them with their problems. We are working towards becoming one-stop solutions for event organizers that help them to manage their events, ticketing, promotions.

  1. If you weren’t building your startup, what would you be doing?

Ans:   If I wasn’t building All events, I would be building other products, probably music apps and DJing in free time.

  1. What message would you like to give to upcoming entrepreneurs?

Ans:   If you have just started. Don’t waste your time in chasing investors and startup competitions, rather spend energy getting early traction and get at least 10 paying customers.
