Managing time tracking for hourly workers or on-site workers comes as a challenge to many businesses. But with the advancement in technology, companies are now able to manage their highly-skilled hourly workers in a breeze. One such tool that helps achieve this is SINC – the mobile workforce management platform.

Co-founded by Sam Matthews and Sam Dolbel, this platform helps organizations bring the data from the field to the office seamlessly. In one of his interviews with Makersweekly, Sam Matthews said that he would be a starving documentary filmmaker if he wouldn’t have been into SINC. So, let’s find out how his career led him to the inception of SINC, what is it that SINC offers, and much more in his exclusive interview with SoftwareSuggest.

In Conversation with Sam Matthews Co-Founder of SINC

How did the idea of building SINC come up?

The story is actually a little crazy. I was working as a filmmaker trying to film a documentary when my co-founder Sam Dolbel came to me with an issue that he was facing a problem in tracking the hours of his construction staff. Initially, we had something as simple as an excel sheet in mind, but we decided to just go for it and make an app.

Tell us something about your product.

SINC is at its core a tool for streamlining the flow of information within a construction company, or similar blue-collar company with hourly workers. This means everything from hours, tasks, notes, locations, and even chat. The idea is to get key information in the hands of the people who need it to run their company effectively.

Considering the pace at which the SaaS market is growing, what is the current growth of SINC like?

Recently, we’ve been back to growing at a 10-15% monthly rate which we think is exciting. Taking some time to focus on the development of some complex but high-value features of our product have really begun to pay off in terms of growth.

Are there any ideological principles that your company follows to build and maintain its brand value?

There is the one really big one, and that’s transparency. We baked this into all aspects of our product from the beginning, because we know first hand how important that is to both the managers and employees of a company. We believe transparency leads to happier staff, which then leads to better and more productive workplaces.

What’s the most important thing that you are working on at present? How are you making it happen?

We are finalizing our company chat feature to help business communication during this crazy current climate due to coronavirus. We want this to be a fully-featured tool that companies can use throughout their day, as this situation has made us realize how important a feature like this is for companies.

How is your product different from those available in the market?

It is more focused on construction companies in particular. Within that space, there are definitely other products but we don’t believe any of them have such robust real-time timekeeping functionality. The strength and accuracy of our timekeeping definitely set us apart, as well as our focus on mobile-first and easy, intuitive use for staff.

Can you name some of the companies you have served to date?

We’re trusted by over 4000 companies, mostly SMEs.

What does success look like for SINC?

We want to become the go-to tool for construction companies of all sizes. The boots on the ground management platform positioned between a company’s CRM and accounting software.

If you weren’t building SINC, what would you be doing differently?

I’d probably be making films or at least trying to.

Any piece of advice you would like to give to emerging entrepreneurs?

I think you have to first have an idea you believe needs to exist in the world. Then the most important thing is to follow through. Lots of good ideas just end up as only that. I strongly believe in the saying that these things are 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.
