SolidWorks Pros and Cons

"With SolidWorks designing and simulation becomes a piece of cake, it provides a step-by-step procedure for doing any simulation study and gives the results as par real time scenarios. With a well built design tool library, I can import standard parts like gears, nuts, bolts, washers, screws, etc directly into my design interface which saves a lot of time and improves my productivity. I can also see my live simulation results in the animation wizard provided by SolidWorks."

"Simplicity of User interface anyone can use Solid Works without training, one 4 to 5 hours of training required to understand upto 70% software basics. I am using Solid Works for 3D modelling and 2D detailing of solid components used in heavy equipment engineering. Also Inbuilt standard sizes of L angels and extruded bars are moreover helpful in Solidworks. 360degrees of viewing angles. Ability to view and create 2D and 3D file. Can export 3D pdf as well. Import almost all types of cad files. CAD library given in Solidworks is really helpful for designers."

"One of the things I like the most is that we can import different types of files, even taking advantage of previous projects. It has a very usable interface and the features in general are very intuitive."

"The meshing feature is not as advance as compared to Ansys, I can't do manual meshing of the surfaces if I wanted to study localized deformations in parts. The software sometimes lags while doing any complex analysis, hence need improvements in this area."

"Solidworks is useful for sheet metal parts and solid geometry designing, but using it for plastic components is sometimes hectic for me it doesn't give freedom like catia for 3d modelling of plastic components this i dislikes."

"Files are heavy on larger projects, and they are very demanding on the hardware that processes them. Need to improve collaborative and shared file functionality."

SolidWorks : My Personal Favourite

From my four years of experience using SolidWorks, I can say it is the best software for designing all types of 3D models, ranging from simple shafts to complex aviation and automotive assemblies. In SolidWorks, all the features are placed in a concise manner, making it very user-friendly, and all the operations can be commanded with a click of a mouse or by using keyboard shortcuts. Moreover, SolidWorks is not only limited to designing; we can also perform all types of analysis, such as Static, Thermal, Flow, Mold, CFD, Linear, and Non-Linear analysis.

Solidworks review

SolidWorks gives you the ability to create 3D designs to a very high specification. It has several standard 3D tools and various surfacing options to create freeform parts. I also love the different rotational views and that you can set up many ideas. The best tools I like are the surfacing and direct editing features. Navigating through your design tree is also super easy, so if you have problems and need to make corrections or edit the design intent, it's convenient.

What features is SolidWorks currently missing?

The transition towards cloud-based solutions on the SOLIDWORKS platform has been long in the tooth and has changed a lot over the years. In some ways, they're an early adopter, and yet it's taken such a long and convoluted path to get to the current state that it's hard to feel confident that the platform won't go through more radical changes. The risk of SW evolving into a SAAS model with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is real, if hard to define or justify.

Best tool for solid modeling

We use SolidWorks to create 3D models and 2D drawings. It is mainly used in school environments (technical schools), laboratories, and customer services. We use 3D models to create sheet metal parts for stamping and plastic parts for molding. 3D modeling allows us to identify how pieces fit together, how they work, and even how we can improve the final product's performance before we build it. The 2D drawing allows us to plan the modeling development.
